Each day I will implement one new idea, concept, or strategy that will ultimately improve the relationship I have with my kids. I am going to strive to learn how to become a better dad in less than one month.
Welcome to DAY TWO of the 30-Day How To Be A Better Dad Challenge. I hope you are having a phenomenal day, living life to the fullest, and most importantly, taking good care of yourself and your kids. On DAY ONE we talked about the importance of saying YES more, and how it can strengthen the relationship between you and your kids. Today, I want to try something a bit more simple.
Since my kids spent the night at their mom’s house, I took some time to reflect on how I can grow as a father even when they are not with me. So, today the idea will be to focus on continuing to improve upon myself, as a person and as a father, with the hopes that a happier me will equate to a happier family when we are together. Make sense?
So, today’s task is simple guys. I am going to be making daily affirmations, today, and for the remainder of the 30-day challenge.
What is an Affirmation?
According to the English American Dictionary, to “affirm” is to state that something is true. An affirmation statement is something that we say to ourselves, or better yet, that we speak out loud, what we know to be true, but haven’t achieved or perfected yet. Affirmations are practical thoughts, not wishful thinking. Affirmations should always start with, “I am…”I will start with the most important affirmation of all, "I am a great father." Click To Tweet
The intention is to add these daily affirmations to my morning routine, immediately after brushing my teeth. I will speak to myself by looking in the mirror and state out loud a minimum of five positive affirmations. Today, my affirmations were as follows.
- I am a great father.
- I am successful.
- I am healthy, fit, and strong.
- I am kind.
- I am optimistic about life.
My hope is that if I wake up in an irritable mood, or I am not feeling my best one day, the daily affirmations will help me realize that life is good, regardless of how I feel in that moment. I am happy because I can tell myself so. I am what I say I am. Sometimes it can be difficult to always be positive.
If I let the stresses of life get the best of me, then I may not know how to be a great dad that day. And my goal is to always be the best dad that I can be. My kids deserve that.
